When Poorvi Sharma decided to switch from English Literature to technical training, she hoped it would lead to stable work but lacked a clear roadmap. Coming from a family of five where her father, the sole breadwinner, runs a small cleaning supplies business, she was keen to gain practical skills to help her parents. While she had a deep interest in English Literature, she knew she needed marketable skills and turned to the tech world—first enrolling in COPA training at NSTI (W) Prayagraj, and soon after, the SkillSaksham Program.

Prior to the program, Poorvi had basic exposure to Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. However, SkillSaksham deepened her understanding of these tools while introducing her to new industry platforms like Power BI. She quickly picked up on data cleaning, analysis, and visualisation and began creating dashboards.

Her biggest highlight of the program was her capstone project. Using Power BI, she worked through agricultural datasets to extract insights into crop yield and optimal soil-weather conditions. She utilised her newly acquired skills to clean the vast amount of raw data, create dashboards and visualisations, and finally analyse it to provide crucial insights that could help farmers make informed decisions. “I never thought I could work with data and extract something useful out of it,” she says happily. “This gave me a new level of confidence.”

Poorvi also credits the Employability Skills sessions for helping her feel more confident and self-assured. She learned how to draft professional emails, speak clearly during group discussions, and collaborate effectively with peers. One exercise that stood out to her was having to present her project findings to a group which she had never done before. “It wasn’t just about having the skills,” she said. “It was about knowing how to present them.”

Today, she’s actively exploring entry-level roles where she can apply her strengths in communication and data tools. By working through real datasets, building dashboards, and developing the confidence to speak up, she’s charted a path she didn’t see before. The program helped turn a once-uncertain career pivot into a direction grounded in skills she can now confidently demonstrate.

Growing up in Ayodhya, Abhay Tiwari was the kind of student who preferred staying in the background. Speaking up felt intimidating and English, in particular, was a hurdle. But Abhay wasn’t one to back away. Alongside his railway trade at ITI Charbagh and a bachelor's degree he pursued independently, he joined the Skills Saksham Program hoping to improve his communication. What he found was more transformative than expected.

In the beginning, group discussions and mock interviews were difficult. “My voice would shake. I’d blank out after two lines,” he said. However, repeated exposure made a difference. Sessions started with simple prompts and short introductions. Over time, activities progressed to longer group discussions and formal presentations. That incremental design worked. Eventually, Abhay was volunteering for presentations and framing responses during mock interviews with ease. “Now I can speak in front of 50–60 people,” he shares. “And I can do it in English without panicking. That’s not something I thought I’d be able to say.”

As he built his confidence, he also gained critical tools for the job market. He learned to write professional emails, build his resume, and maintain a LinkedIn profile that showcased his goals. Before SSP, Abhay had never used Microsoft Office. Now, he regularly uses Word and Excel for assignments and has even begun sharing them through Adobe PDF.

The program also introduced him to GenAI tools and digital job search strategies. “I didn’t even know how to look for jobs properly before this,” he said. Without a personal computer at home, these had always felt just out of reach. But the program helped him navigate online platforms, tailor applications, and use AI to explore roles that match his profile.

He still dreams of cracking the UPSC one day, but in the meantime, he’s focused on becoming more confident, employable, and digitally fluent. “Before, I wouldn’t even raise my hand in class. Now I know how to speak so people actually listen,” he says. For Abhay, that visibility is everything.

When it came time to pursue an undergraduate degree, Akshanshu Kumar Saxena’s heart was set on a Bachelor's in Computer Application. However, his father, a district lawyer, faced low legal demand in the region, and his mother hadn’t yet secured her current job as a government teacher. Challenges in life forced Akshanshu to make a pivot and enrol in a BSc in Maths and Science, a more feasible degree at the time.

However, Akshanshu found his way to Computer Science Application through NSTI Kanpur’s CITS Program. SkillSaksham introduced itself as a natural companion soon after. The promise of training in communication and technical tools immediately drew him in. “Power BI wasn’t part of my college syllabus, but I knew it was important in analytics,” he shares. As far as communications skills were concerned, Akshanshu felt he would be remiss if he didn’t enhance his skillset; “Soft skills are, after all, essential to every field.”

He explored tools like Advanced Excel, CoPilot, and of course, Power BI. For Akshanshu, however, the most growth happened when applying his learnings to existing issues. He used CoPilot to create not one, but two chatbots aimed at solving everyday issues; IT support and booking doctor appointments. “I used conditional flows and created user-friendly interfaces with barely any coding,” he explains. He now sees real value in low-code tools like CoPilot that make tech more accessible.

In fact, Akshanshu now finds himself playing around with these tools, and is seriously considering developing innovations that solve real-world issues some day in the future. For now, Akshanshu has set his sights on data management roles, “If you know Power BI well, you can create a solid career in data management.”

Looking back, Akshanshu says the biggest change is in how he sees himself. “This program gave me the skills I needed to feel like a well-rounded professional.” Be it technical knowledge or skills in presenting himself, dressing well, and speaking with confidence, SkillSaksham has carved out Akshankshu’s untapped potential.

Akshanshu is grateful to the program. With glee he shares, “Now if someone asks me something, whether technical or situational, I can respond well. The skills I gained here have made me feel like I can finally step into the professional world with purpose.”

For nearly two years, Azeem was away from formal education. Family circumstances compelled him to drop out after the 10th grade. While his peers moved ahead, he found himself at home, looking for ways to make it back into the classroom. His father, a house painter, did what he could to support the family of four, but it wasn’t enough to cover further studies.

Eventually, he enrolled at ITI and then NSTI, choosing the Mechanic Diesel trade, a trade he had always been curious about. He was happy to be back to learning, but anxieties around the competitive job market nagged at him. At the same time, he yearned to be able to aim higher. That’s when he was introduced to the SkillSaksham program, and his hope was renewed. He was instantly reeled in at the mention of resume-building and communication training. Soon, Azeem began using tools like Microsoft Word and Excel. Instead of handwriting assignments, he was now typing them out. To keep track of his attendance, he was making use of Excel sheets. For the first time, digital skills became a daily part of his life.

Cybersecurity sessions deepened his interest in tech further. “I didn’t know how exposed we are online.” LinkedIn Learning provided a host of other modules in online safety and digital literacy, pushing Azeem to learn further.
Azeem witnessed himself transform, aided in equal part by soft skills training. Nervousness used to get the better of him, but now, through mock interviews, body language practice, and grooming sessions, Azeem had the confidence to speak and carry himself with ease. “I used to be too afraid to even talk on the phone. Now, I’m more at ease in class, in public, and even on calls,” he shares with pride.

Azeem now has the confidence and skills to chase his dream and aim higher. He still wants to work with engines, but now as someone who can contribute to diesel engineering. SkillSaksham, he says, wasn’t just about learning new skills. “It reminded me what I’m capable of and gave me the tools to start doing something about it.”

Raised in a family of seven in Kanpur, Roshni Kumari had long dreamt of becoming a software engineer. Her father works in construction, her mother manages the home, and her siblings contribute in different ways; her brother repairs mobile phones, her elder sister helps at home, and her younger sister is still in school. After finishing 12th grade, Roshni opted for the COPA trade at ITI Kanpur as a way to stay connected to her interest in technology.

When she joined the program, she expected a basic soft skills course. What she got was far more layered. “I thought we’d just learn how to talk in interviews,” she says, “but we were taught how to actually work with computers using Microsoft Office, email writing, and even Generative AI.” Every class felt useful. “Every morning, I’d wake up excited to attend,” she shares with glee.

However, it was the employability training that appealed to her the most. In early sessions, Roshni struggled to speak up. “I was scared of saying the wrong thing,” she recalls. Through group discussions, mock interviews, and grooming modules, however, she began to build confidence and learned how to express disagreement calmly, make eye contact, and introduce herself in formal settings. The transformation was visible: she went from avoiding eye contact to volunteering to speak, even in front of senior faculty.

One session on emotional regulation especially stood out. “Earlier, I’d react immediately if I was upset,” she shares. “Now I take a moment. I’ve learned to listen, reflect, and respond.” She felt encouraged to apply this skill during team activities, especially when there were disagreements, and Roshni began to notice a shift. This growing self-awareness now shapes how she handles classroom dynamics, family interactions, and peer conversations.

The program, she says, helped her develop both her professional and personal selves. “Soft skills are everything,” Roshni says. “Once you know how to speak and present yourself, people listen. And that makes all the difference, whether it be in an interview or in a conversation with your peers.” She now hopes to build a career in computer operations where she can apply both her newfound technical and soft skills.

Sachin Singla’s training history reads like a patchwork of curiosity. Raised in Bangalore, he pursued a B.A. in Mathematics while dabbling in technical courses ranging from computer hardware and software to plumbing. It was a path defined by exploration—until he found a clear direction through the Electronics Mechanic trade at NSTI Bangalore.

While Sachin already had scattered technical knowledge, he was looking for something structured which could help him grow into a more well-rounded professional with clear career goals. That’s what he felt SkillSaksham offered.

His biggest learning highlight was when he built a project using CoPilot Studio. Aimed at helping 10th and 12th-grade students, his chatbot-style study tool organized notes, books, and material chapter-wise across subjects. “I wanted to build something I would’ve wanted when I was in school,” he said. The project helped him understand how to structure a solution around a user’s needs, from interface logic to content flow.

Simultaneously, the program’s communication and workplace readiness modules helped Sachin develop the skills to articulate his work. He shares that participating in mock interviews, group discussions, and email drafting exercises helped him engage more confidently in team settings and interviews. “I used to freeze when speaking in front of others,” he shared. “Now I know how to communicate what I’ve built, and why it matters.”

Today, Sachin is actively exploring roles in teaching and the electronics industry. However, for the first time, he feels his steps are aligned toward a bigger purpose. “I used to jump between courses without direction,” he said. “This program helped me see how my skills can actually support others; whether that’s by building tools like my study chatbot or by guiding students one day as an instructor.” With a clearer sense of how technical skills and communication work hand in hand, Sachin is now preparing for instructor certification exams, hoping to step into a teaching role where he can bring the same structure and clarity to others.

Vamshi Krishna’s training journey has always been shaped by his family’s mix of public service and business. Raised in Vidyanagar, he pursued a diploma in Mechanical Motor Vehicles at NSTI, following in the footsteps of his father, an ITI instructor. While his mother managed the home, his elder brother built an import-export business which Vamshi Krishna occasionally supported. However, until recently, he had never considered how his skills could meaningfully contribute to its growth.

That changed through the SkillSaksham Program, which Vamshi Krishna joined with a clear goal: to strengthen his communication skills and gain exposure to tools like Advanced Excel, Power BI, and AI. “You can have all the knowledge in the world,” he said, “but if you can’t present yourself well, it doesn’t count for much.”

His proudest contribution came when he applied Power BI and Advanced Excel to streamline operations in his brother’s business. He developed dashboards that tracked imports and exports, visualized monthly finances, and monitored salary data for over 1,500 employees across multiple states.
