SkillSaksham: To enable, empower, and accelerate youth towards entry-level technology job

India is likely to have the world’s largest workforce by 2027, with a billion people aged between 15yrs-64yrs (Source: Bloomberg News analysis). By 2022, 63% of the population will be in the working age group. Despite this being a huge challenge, it also offers a huge potential for economic and social reorganization, reorientation, and growth. At the same time the job landscape has evolved considerably. Technology has disrupted the nature of jobs and the skills required to perform them, requiring the global workforce to continuously adapt India has more than 14,000 Industrial Training Institutes that offer training to over 2 million youth every year. There are more than 138 approved trades / streams / courses which are offered through these ITIs and up to 10 trades which offer courses related to IT or computer applications. Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA) is one of the widely participated trades in the ITI ecosystem.

NASCCOM predicts that by 2022, a startling 46% of the Indian workforce will be engaged in entirely new jobs that do not exist today or jobs that have radically changed skill sets.

In addition to these ITIs, there are also 30+ National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) across the country. These NSTIs are typically positioned as 1 nodal center in state and are responsible to conduct advanced courses for students and teachers from ITIs for added vocational training and certification.

Duration: NSTI 320 hours and ITI 55 hours
Locations: Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujrat, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh


Program Design

  • To Conduct short term courses in identified NSTI locations and train students through instructor led sessions. The students who successfully gets certified will be supported with job/internship/apprenticeship opportunities.
  • To Conduct a lite and modular program for students from ITIs in select locations to train students on relevant content curated in program in instructor led format. The students who successfully gets certified will be supported with job/internship/apprenticeship opportunities. These locations can be aligned in aspirational districts / semi-urban / rural areas in the select geographies for larger impact and outreach.
  • Integrate Bharat Skills platform with program LMS to enable access to content to larger audiences in ITI ecosystem.
  • Engage volunteers from Microsoft into the trainings to deliver enhanced learning experiences.

Program Outcomes

Enhanced Digital Literacy: Students should develop a strong foundation in using digital tools, software, and online platforms effectively and responsibly.

Program Eligibility Criteria

Participants will have to meet the following eligibility criteria to register for the program

NSTI Model
  • Students should have completed the ITI Diploma in any trade, preferably COPA and allied trades.
  • Students should be willing to invest 6 months in the training program.
  • Students should be inclined to learn industry relevant tech skills.
  • Student should have basic English skills – ability to understand and comprehend.
ITIs Model
  • Students should be enrolled in a trade in ITI.
  • Students should be inclined to learn industry relevant tech skills
  • Students should have basic proficiency in using a computer.
  • Students should have basic English skills – ability to understand and comprehend.
